Additional Resources

Stone book carving, University of Connecticut, Storrs.

TEACHING KITS
For a printable docucment, click Teaching Kits (.doc)
During this project we produced Teacher's Kits to richen and broaden the experience of using Stone Wall Secrets in the Classroom. Each contains actual rock samples of the stones encountered by Adam, a letter from the stonemason, a photo of the co-author as a child, a magnifying glass, magnetic compass, and plastic farm animals. They were not tested by the classroom teachers; hence are not used in the curriciulum.
MATH STICK
Math Stick
To help encourage kids to work outside with stone walls, we developed and tested a simple, unbreakable, brightly-colored device called a math stick. It can be easily used to measure wall dimensions, their directions on the landscape, the slopes of their faces, and their slope on the land. Included inside are measuring cords and sticks for walls and stones, respectively.
ALTERNATIVE LESSONS AND MATERIALS
These were developed by one of the graduate students but were not implemented and tested by classroom teachers. We post them hoping that you might find something useful to supplement the classes.
